Success Kid was a photograph of a toddler, Sammy Griner, fist clenched, mouth full, staring at the horizon with the face of a man who has just won the Super Bowl over a grain of sand. It began as 'I Hate Sand' in 2007 and became the universal celebration of small victories. In 2015, Sammy's father needed a kidney transplant, and the meme's own fans raised over $100,000 for it. The fist pump that carried a decade of good news was used, once, for actual good news. The meme retired shortly after. It had nothing left to prove.
