“Pointing at each other, forever”

Obituary

Spider-Man Pointing was a frame from the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon in which two Spider-Men point at each other, each accusing the other of being the impostor. It became the internet's way of saying 'we're the same person' — used for lookalikes, for situations where both sides are equally guilty, and for the realization that the thing you're complaining about is you. It was the rare meme that contained no punchline, just recognition: two identical people, deadlocked, forever pointing. It died in 2020, not from overuse, but because it had pointed at everything there was. The pointing continues, somewhere, in a group chat.
