Ermahgerd was a photograph of a young girl, Maggie Goldenberger, gaping at a pile of books with what looked like a mouth full of marbles, and the caption — 'Ermahgerd, gersberms' — gave the internet a whole new dialect: a way of typing that replaced every vowel with the wrong one and every r with an extra one. 'Mahf berks' meant my books. 'Gersberms' meant Girl Scout cookies. It was the linguistic wing of the early 2010s, a language you could only speak if you were mocking a child, which the internet never hesitated to do. The girl grew up, sold the meme as an NFT, and lives quietly. The dialect died with the decade.
