Confused Math Lady was a stock photo of a woman, brow furrowed, surrounded by floating equations she clearly never agreed to, and the internet used it for every moment of sudden, unwelcome complexity. 'Me reading the terms and conditions.' 'Me during a group project.' The image worked because the woman's confusion was total and unpretentious — she was doing her best with an impossible problem. It died in 2020, outlived by every person who has ever stared at a spreadsheet. The equations are still floating. She is still confused.
