Nyan Cat was an 8-bit cat with a Pop-Tart for a body, flying through space on a rainbow while a chiptune loop played its own name forever. It was uploaded to YouTube in April 2011 and within months had a hundred million views, a Guinness World Record for the most views of a video game music track, and a presence in a NASA engineer's actual workspace. It died not because anyone stopped loving it but because the loop, which was the point, eventually became the torture. The cat is still flying. The rainbow is still there. The music, mercifully, has faded.
