Harlem Shake was the first meme to die of exhaustion in under sixty days. It worked like this: one person dances alone, the beat drops, and suddenly everyone in the room is flailing. For six weeks in early 2013, every office, military unit, and zoo on earth uploaded a version. Then, as suddenly as it started, it stopped, because the internet had filmed every possible room and there were no rooms left. The song remains. The shaking does not.
