Is This a Pigeon? was a frame from the 2001 anime The Big O in which a character looks at a butterfly and asks, with total sincerity, 'Is this a pigeon?' It became the internet's way of pointing out confident wrongness: a label confidently slapped on the wrong thing, usually as a metaphor for a bad take. 'Is this a good investment?' asks a man holding a flaming wallet. It died in 2019, but its structure outlives it — every time someone is confidently, beautifully wrong, the pigeon flies again.
