Futurama Fry was a single frame of Fry squinting, suspicious, from the show's pilot — and the internet's universal way of expressing doubt: 'Not sure if serious, or just stupid.' 'Not sure if my boss is a genius, or just insane.' He was the first meme to make suspicion a genre, the thinking person's reaction image. He died in 2014 the way all reaction memes die: replaced by a hundred smaller squints. But every time someone narrows their eyes at a dubious claim, a little piece of Fry is alive. Not sure if that's comforting, or just sad.
