Coffin Dance was a group of Ghanaian pallbearers who carried coffins in choreographed, celebratory syncopation, filmed in 2017 and set to a drum-heavy anthem. In March 2020, as the world shut down, the internet realized the clip was the perfect soundtrack for every terrible decision it was about to make: 'Me: goes outside without a mask. The coffin dancers: ' The meme carried the global pandemic's dark humor for a full year, which is a heavier load than any meme should have to bear. It died in 2021, when the pandemic stopped being a punchline and the pallbearers went back to work.
