Jacques-Louis David's heroic portrait of Napoleon became the internet's favorite way to caption tiny ambitions: 'me, crossing the street to avoid my ex.' The horse got smaller, the mountain got bigger, and the Emperor of the French became the Emperor of Overthinking. He abdicated around 2019.
