Grumpy Cat was a real cat named Tardar Sauce with a real facial condition that made her look permanently, profoundly unimpressed. She became a fortune: merchandise, movies, a lifetime of 'No.' She died of a urinary tract infection in 2019, and the internet briefly stopped joking. Her face outlives her on coffee mugs everywhere. She is the rare meme whose actual death we mourn, and she was, to the end, unimpressed by the whole thing.
