In January 2010, a man named Paul Vasquez filmed a double rainbow over his Yosemite cabin and had a religious experience on camera. 'Whoa, that's so intense. Double rainbow all the way across the sky. What does it mean?!' The video became a meditation on pure, unguarded joy, and the internet embraced it as the sound of someone feeling too much. It was remixed into a song, referenced in TV shows, and adopted as shorthand for overwhelming wonder. It died in 2011, not because the joy faded, but because you can only watch a man cry at a rainbow so many times before the rainbow becomes the point and the man becomes the background. Paul Vasquez died in 2020. The double rainbow he saw remains online forever.
