David After Dentist was a 2008 video of a seven-year-old boy, David DeVore, coming out of anesthesia after a dental procedure, staring into the back seat camera with total confusion and asking, in a voice that broke a million hearts: 'Is this real life?' His father filmed it, posted it in January 2009, and the internet watched a child process the concept of existence in real time. It was one of the first videos to make 'reaction' the whole point. It died in 2011, when David grew up and the clip became a beloved artifact instead of a live wire. He is fine now. This was, in fact, real life.
